Book #20 - The Alchemist

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Translated from the Portuguese by Alan R. Clarke

Rating: 3.5

A lovely fable with a simple moral about listening to your heart and following your dreams. For me it was also about the journey itself, who you meet and what you learn along the way. A quick, easy read, but not life-changing or particularly original.

"There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure."

  2. One of my favourite books too! I agree that it is simple and fable like but the message is deep! If you want something, the universe helps you get it and maktub - everything is written. i love how people can change and move and grow and do all kinds of things - depending on their belief in themselves! Very very inspiting!

  3. I definitely believe that the more you believe in yourself, have confidence in yourself, the more you'll achieve. But I can't really believe the idea that the universe does whatever it can to help you along. Just call me a pessimist with low self-esteem! :P

  4. I just finished reading this, and my take on it is very similar to yours. Then again, I'm pretty sure I'm a pessimist with low self-esteem myself :-)!
