That looks like the area by my front door (only tidier). We take off our shoes when we enter, even with arms full of groceries. I used to try to get guests to remove their shoes, as well, but some of them stubbornly refused, so I quit asking!! I'm still wondering if that's an American hang-up, wanting to keep the shoes on. LOL
