Non-Fiction Five Challenge

I've finally settled on my list of 5 books for Joy's Non-Fiction Five Challenge which will run from May to September. According to the rules, only 2 books can overlap with other challenges, so I've indicated which ones do. I never seem to get around to reading Non-Fiction very often but I'm really looking forward to these, most of which have been waiting on the shelves far too long. So thank you Joy for the gentle arm-twisting.

THE LIST:
1. Hitching Rides With Buddha - Will Ferguson (TRAVEL)--also for the O'Canada Challenge --FINISHED
2. The Diary of Anne Frank (DIARY/MEMOIR)--also for the Banned Book Challenge --FINISHED
3. Princess Masako: Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne - Ben Hills (BIOGRAPHY) --FINISHED
4. Embracing Defeat - John Dower (HISTORY)
5. The Mother Tongue - Bill Bryson (LANGUAGE) --FINISHED

ALTERNATES/EXTRA CREDIT:
Fast Food Nation - Eric Schlosser (FOOD)
Buddhism: Plain & Simple - Steve Hagen (RELIGION) --FINISHED

  1. Ah, I keep meaning to read Fast Food Nation. It's in my stacks. My hubby read it and said it was very informative, but since my Nonfiction stack is about to topple over (I think I listed 13 or 14!), I better wait 'til next year. Good luck with your list!

  2. Les,
It didn't quite make my list of 5 but I've had it for ages it seems and really should read it so I put it as an alternate. But like you said there's always next year! Good luck with yours.

  4. I've had The Mother Tongue sitting on my shelf for ages; that's a good one for the NFF. I need to go see when it starts and decide what to go for. Good list.

    Nancy,
I've had it for ages too. Should be a fun read.

  6. Nat, I'm so glad we're challenge buddies again!

I like your list! I do believe I have copies of "HItching Rides with Buddha" and "The Mother Tongue", so I'll be waiting to see what you think of those two books in particular.
