R.I.P. II Challenge

It's coming up to that time of year again! Time for Carl's R.I.P. II Challenge (aka the 2nd Annual Readers Imbibing Peril Autumn Reading challenge). Looking at the books I have left to read for other challenges I really shouldn't join any more, but I've had a few books in mind for a while now so there's no way I could sit this one out!
(Click on button for more info)

The challenge, 'a celebration of all tales gothic, eerie, creepy, and dark,' runs from September 1st to October 31st.
And I'm opting for ..

Peril the First:

Read Four books of any length, from any subgenre of scary stories that you choose.

My Peril Pool:

Tales of Moonlight and Rain - Akinari Ueda
Season of the Witch - Natasha Mostert
Twilight - Stephanie Meyer
The Haunted House - Charles Dickens et al
The Ladies of Grace Adieu - Susanna Clarke

Plus I reserve the right to substitute in any other books that cross my path.

A separate blog has been set up for the R.I.P Book Reviews.

  2. I'm glad you're joining this one too. I shouldn't be joining any more challenges either, but this one's too good to resist.

  3. I might add that Stephanie Meyer books. I've seen students reading Eclipse, and I think the book you listed is the first in that series, right?

  4. Donna,
LOL! I know some others who have even more challenges on the go than I do, but yes, I couldn't NOT join this one! :P

    Nymeth,
Definitely too good to resist. It'll be fun!

    Dewey,
Yup, Twilight is the first in the series. I've had it for a while so it'll be good to finally read it.

  5. I'm pretty sure I'll be adding Season of the Witch to my list as well - we'll have to compare notes :)

  6. I think I'm going to try and read Twilight as well for this challenge. There are so many books I want to read for it but I am moving house and going on holiday during the two months so not sure how much I will get through.

  7. Iliana,
Definitely! I'm looking forward to reading it.

    Rhinoa,
Moving house is always a headache. Good luck with it. From what I've heard 'Twilight' is a pretty quick, fun read so hopefully you'll find some time for it even with all you've got on.

  8. Very cool list...I've been debating picking up the Stephanie Myers books and I'm sure that I'll get them eventually, though it may not be in time for the challenge. I love your header by the way!

  9. Chris,
Thanks for the compliment on my header. I'm quite fickle about them and like to change them every couple of months or so but this one'll be up for a little longer.
I'm curious to finally read Twilight after all I've heard about the series.

  10. I bought Tales of Moonlight and Rain after reading your list, and the reviews it received on Amazon. It looks like such a wonderful book! So, I'll be adding it to my RIP II Challenge, and giving you the credit for finding it for me! I'm looking forward to discussing it together.

  11. Bellezza,
Oh I hope you like it. I'd never heard of it before I saw it while browsing that day but it seems to be a classic. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

  12. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you enjoy Twilight. I read it at the beginning of the year and enjoyed it a lot. I ran right out to the library to get New Moon. Haven't had time for Eclipse yet.
