hanabi (fireworks)

Fireworks festivals are very popular here in the summer. But they also tend to be extremely crowded, never mind hot and humid, so we don't usually go. But once a year, we can catch glimpses of a nearby festival, the high ones at least. Sorry the pictures aren't great but this is what we saw from our apartment last Saturday night.

  2. I know what you mean about fireworks shows being crowded. My husband and I have a nice view from our house of the 4th of July firework show that takes place every year. There's a tree that blocks the view partially, but not enough to ruin the display for us. Great photos, Nat!

  10. Cool photos Tanabata! Totally unrelated, but wasn't there a great Japanese film starring Beat Takeshi, by the same name?

  11. Not great? I think those are terrific photos! I love the addition of the buildings. It gives a great feel for where you stood to observe.

Wendy- Being sardined in a mass of hot, sweaty bodies just doesn't appeal to me. ;P
That's nice that you can watch the July 4th show from your house.

Les- I have to admit that H helped me out by suggesting what settings to use. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have turned out at all otherwise.

antipodeanowl- Yes you're right, there is a Beat Takashi film called "Hana-bi". I've seen some of his other films but not that one.

Nancy- LOL. We kinda wished that apartment building wasn't there but what can ya do? :)

  15. I think these are great shots! I especially liked the first one - even if the fireworks are a bit blurry - I don't know, I think it's almost like those tell a story. You have the houses in the front but you can't help but wonder what's going on back there! :)

  16. Iliana- LOL. We did wonder what was going on back there, especially when there was a lull in the high ones but we could still hear the fireworks being set off. One of my students went to it and she said it was so crowded, so I'm still glad we didn't go. :P

  17. Hanabis are great if not for the crowd! And the heat of course - Japan is so hot right now, even hotter than the Philippines!
