Sunday Salon: Secret Santa

I'm still reading The Painter of Shanghai. Sigh. I'm enjoying it but I've been so busy lately I just haven't had a lot of time to read. I did read for a little while in bed this morning which was very nice after a hectic week. And I'm off to bed now to read a bit more. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it sometime this week since I'm starting to get a bad case of next-book-itis!

As for book-shaped mail, I only received one book in the last 2 weeks, and it's already been sent back. You can read more about why here. But I have several books already waiting for me in Canada. Not long now! It really will be like Christmas opening up all my book parcels. I'm rather worried about the weight of my suitcase for the return journey but of course that won't stop me from browsing a couple of my favourite book stores while I'm there.

So no books but I did receive my Book Blogger's Secret Santa gift last week. Inside was a notepad, some pretty bookmarks and some nice smelly soap. My Secret Santa decided to remain anonymous, so all I know is that the package came from New Zealand. Thank you Secret Santa! And of course a big thank you to Nymeth and Dewey for organising it.

Week in Review:
Weekend Snapshot: Japanese maple
Review: The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling
Graphic Novels and Manga (1 challenge completed, another beginning)
Orbis Terrarum Challenge wrap-up
Lost in Translation Reading Challenge

Have a great week!

  1. I'm the Secret Santa. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to sign it or not, so decided to play it safe. But since other people are owning up, I'm perfectly happy to do so as well. I know it was only a little gift, but I hope you liked it and I'm glad it arrived safely.

  3. I understand what you mean about being so busy you don't have too much time left over for reading. After I run today's errands, I think I may follow your example and go to bed to read! :-)

What a wonderful Book Blogger Secret Santa gift! It was fun this year!

    Have a great week, Nat!

  4. Lots of mysterious Secret Santas this year! I can see how the mystery adds to the fun, but I also understand really wanting to know :P I'm glad you like your gifts. Very pretty bookmarks!

And sigh, I know all about worrying about the weight of your luggage.

  5. On a note of prudence, I'd curb the book buying before boarding. (Say that three times fast.) I learned the hard way that my luggage was horribly overweight on a recent trip and it nearly cost me $90USD; luckily I was able to shift some things around and add the excess to my carry-on, and my back was not happy about it. :)

Now on to the fun stuff...

What kind of smelly soap is it? Inquiring minds want to know (and "smelly" can mean anything from sewer water to rose candy...which side of the spectrum is it on - not to put you on the spot or anything LOL)

I like the notepad. Is that a koala? It's so cute.

  8. Kerry - Thank you!! I'm so glad you owned up. It's nice knowing who it came from. I'm already using one of the bookmarks and look forward to using that yummy smelling soap soon. :)

Amy - Thanks. I hope you have a good week too.

Wendy - I didn't join the Secret Santa exchange last year but am glad I did this year. It's always fun to get a little parcel in the mail.
I have so many things to do this week I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! I have been reading a bit though and am nearing the end of the book finally. Yay. :)

Nymeth - I'm so glad Kerry commented letting me know it was her. Hopefully I'll be able to divide the books between a couple of bags so they won't be overweight. We'll see how it goes.

Ann-Kat - I plan to take a suitcase inside a suitcase when I go because I always have a lot to bring back and hopefully by spreading the books between them and my carry-on I'll be ok. Fingers crossed!

The soap is New Zealand honey and smells very yummy! :P
And the picture on the notepad is of two pukeko birds. It's one of those notepads with a magnet on the back so it's now up on my fridge.

Iliana - I know what you mean! :P

Sheri - Well thank you, and for stopping by to say hi.
