The cat who lost his meow

This photo was actually taken a couple of months ago but it was a pretty uneventful weekend. However, yesterday we took Bailey to the vet to find out why he suddenly lost his voice a few days ago. Poor thing would try to meow but no sound would come out. Well, the vet thinks it's probably just a throat infection and gave us some antiobiotics to give him over the next 10 days. After a day and a half of the pills, he can now manage a croaky bit of a meow, so we expect he'll be back to his usual noisy self before too long.

  1. I'm not much of a cat person, but your Bailey is quite cute! Here's hoping he gets his voice back soon!

  4. I am glad the medication seems to be working. Hopefully it isn't too painful for Bailey. Sore throats can be just awful--and then not to be able to communicate . . .

  8. Great news! I told my husband the story and he asked why you wanted to fix that. ;) We have a couple of whiny guys that we wouldn't mind if they lost their voices for a few days!

  9. Oh good! I was worried about Bailey there for a little while. I can't imagine how you must have felt! That's such a great picture of him!

  10. Aww, that's so cute! I love it when cats get all twisty.

Our cat occasionally opens her mouth and seems to say nothing. We call it "silent meow", but it's just an occasional thing. Sounds like poor Bailey was a sick boy. Hope he's getting better!

  11. Michelle - Thanks, it's already starting to come back a bit.

Heather J. - We were a little surprised too when it happened.

iselldreams - Thanks, he seems to be getting better.

Wendy - He didn't really seem to be in pain, and he had no problem eating, but we can't know for sure. He'll probably be glad to be able to meow at us again. ;)

Sylvie - LOL. He still found ways to be naughty even without a voice! ;P

Kailana - The pills seem to be working so he should be back to normal soon.

Nymeth - Thanks, he seems to be on the mend.

Kristen M. - LOL! Bailey does have a very loud, demanding meow usually so I admit I really was enjoying the peace and quiet for a few days!

Chris - It was very strange so it's good he's starting to get his meow back, even though it means I'll be getting less sleep again (he wakes me up early every morning wanting to eat).

Nancy - He didn't appear sick otherwise as he was still eating and running around like usual. But no sound at all for about 4 days wasn't something we could ignore. And thanks, he does seem to be getting better.

    iska - Thanks. :)

SandyCarlson - He loves sprawling out, especially in the summer when it's really hot.

  12. I've never heard of a cat having laryngitis (sp?). How sad ... no meow. Hope he's doing better soon.

  13. Aw how sad! My cat is an old man now and often does the silent meiow, but at other times is very noisy. I think he's just a bit special!

  14. Terri B. - Thanks. His meow is pretty croaky so he's not yet back to normal but at least he can make some sound again.

mariel - Bailey is usually so noisy that we knew something had to be wrong! How old is your cat?

  15. Eddie is 18 and apart from his chronic arthritis he is in good health. Still got a loud voice when he's hungry or wants to be let through a closed door!

    Hope Bailey is better soon.

  16. mariel - Oh he is an old man! :) Glad he's still doing so well. Bailey's meow is getting progressively louder day by day so he must be on the mend!

  17. I'm glad to hear he's feeling better...but damn, you should write a book about this with that title!

  18. Janet - LOL. I don't know about this exact title but there already is a whole mystery series of 'The Cat Who...' books. Oh well.

    Iliana - Thanks!
