Mailbox Monday

Nothing the previous week but 4 new books this last week. It's ridiculous how happy I am when I get books in the mail!

The Triumph of Deborah by Eva Etzioni-Halevy - Biblical fiction based on the book of Judges, received from the author for review.

Then I had to order a textbook for one of my students from Amazon Japan. And it would've been lonely not to order something else with it! And a waste of packaging, right? (No need to remind me that I was trying not to buy any books this month after all the books I got at the end of the year).
So I also got:

Rashomon and 17 Other Stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa - After mentioning it in my review the other day, I went ahead and got this, the Penguin Classics Deluxe edition. Doesn't it have a great cover?

And two manga for Rhinoa's Manga Challenge that I've heard good things about. I look forward to trying them out.

Monster, volume 1 by Naoki Urasawa (a serial killer thriller)
xxxHolic, volume 1 by CLAMP (despite the title it's apparently not x-rated)

So what books have you received lately?

Great books! I do love that Rashoman cover!

I've heard so much about xxxHolic. I'm considering reading it for the Manga challenge too. I look forward to your review!

Great stuff! I picked up XXXholic 1 not long ago too. I've actually read the first 3 in the series but don't remember them and have no idea what happened to my copies. I remembered I liked it though, so I bought it again :p

Doesn't look like you got anything I would read but I hope you enjoy them! My list is here

I adore that Rashomon cover. That's the edition I have. Good stuff.

Also, XXXholic -- not x-rated, and really quite fabulous all around. The art is lovely and the stories (within the greater story arc) are charming, sometimes a little unsettling, and interesting. If you've read other stuff by CLAMP, keep an eye out for nods to those other stories (I know both Chobits and Cardcaptor Sakura appear in various forms). I have managed to get up to Vol. 8 in English here in Canada, but apparently we're up to Vol. 12 now. Should get back on that train. I'll be interested to hear what you think!

I actually had a quiet book week! Probably a good thing, though. I have too many books to read as it is.

Hahaha! Wouldn't want that textbook to be lonely! I've got The Triumph of Deborah and so far haven't been able to get into it, but I'll keep trying. The author sent it to me, so I either need to review it or pass it on and let someone else review.

I can totally relate to "needing" to buy more books to fill out an Amazon order! Happy reading!

My Mailbox Monday post is here.

Andi - It is a great cover! And at least I could justify it by the fact that it contains quite a few more stories. ;)

Nymeth - I really want to read both of them, but there are other books I probably should be reading instead. We'll see how long I hold out. :P

Chris - I'm looking forward to trying xxxHolic, especially since I've heard such good things about it.

Callista - We can't all like the same books, but that's what makes book blogging fun. :)

kiirstin - I'm actually new to manga so I haven't read anything else by CLAMP or anyone else really. It looks like a lot of fun though, I can't wait to dive in.

Kailana - Quiet weeks are good too sometimes. My last 2 weeks were like that. And I can certainly relate to already having too many books to read!

Nancy - It seemed sad to have one flat textbook shipped all by itself! I've read some mixed reviews of The Triumph of Deborah but I'll give it a go.

avisannschild - I didn't even 'need' to order more as the textbook itself was enough for free shipping, but you know how it is. :P

I received The Triumph of Deborah last week and can't wait to start it!

Ha, that's funny because as I was writing my comment, I was thinking that the thing I do is use Amazon orders as an excuse to buy a pile of books, way beyond what is required to get free postage!

Oh I've not tried manga before but I'm intrigued by the serial killer thriller. I may have to check that out!

Enjoy the new books!

I've been debating on whether or not to get Triumph of Deborah--I look forward to hearing what you think!

Sorry that it's been awhile since I stopped by. It seems I'm always behind these days.

I also received The Triumph of Deborah recently, and I can't wait for your thoughts. Happy reading!

Wendi B. - I have a few other books I'd like to read first but I look forward to trying it soon.

avisannschild - LOL. I'm like that too. I figure since I'm ordering anyway... :P

Iliana - When H saw that I'd got Monster volume 1, he told me that he read the whole series back when he was a student and that it was really good. So I'm looking forward to it even more now.

Trish - I'm kind of in the mood for some historical fiction lately so I hope it's a good read.

Anna - It's ok, I understand how it is. I always seem to be behind as well. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on The Triumph of Deborah too.
