BTT: Numbers Game (and giveaway winners)

btt button

Some people read one book at a time. Some people have a number of them on the go at any given time, perhaps a reading in bed book, a breakfast table book, a bathroom book, and so on, which leads me to…

  1. Are you currently reading more than one book?
  2. If so, how many books are you currently reading?
  3. Is this normal for you?
  4. Where do you keep your current reads?
Right now I only have one book on the go, and that's normally the case for me. I will occasionally read a couple of books at the same time but I usually consider doing that only if I'm reading short stories, they're easy to read one here and there inbetween the other book, or non-fiction since it doesn't have the same story arc that fiction does. The book I'm currently reading is actually a collection of short stories, so I'm a little tempted to start something else to read alongside it.

I do most of my reading in bed before sleeping so my current read resides on my nightstand. If I'm going to be commuting I might put it in my bag to take with me, although I sometimes use the train time to catch up on some of my magazine reading, especially if my current read is heavy or a hardback making it rather difficult to lug around. On the weekends, I sometimes get a chance to read for a bit in the afternoon so then my book will migrate to the living room. It's very frustrating to get into bed only to realize that my book isn't nearby, so I always try to make sure my book is back on the nightstand before I crawl in at night.

What about you? How many books do you read at a time?

And what you've been waiting for ... it's time to announce the winners of my BAFAB Spring Cleaning giveaway. I meant to post them last night but I was simply too knackered after work to blog.
Anyway, thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway. As promised, the extra entries for those of you who commented on my other posts over the last week were also added. So with a little help from random.org, here are the 5 winners and the books they requested:

Teresa (Surfacing by Margaret Atwood)
Vasilly (Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre)
Becca (Pompeii by Robert Harris)
Bcteagirl (The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald)
Michelle (Moon Palace by Paul Auster)

Congratulations! I'll be in touch and once I have your mailing addresses, I'll get the books packaged up and on their way. Happy reading!

  1. Congrats to the winners!

Like you, I'm a one book person, but when it comes to short stories I can't help but read something else on the side.

  2. I read several books at any given point of time. That way I can pick up the book which suits my mood!

  4. Congratulations to the winners! I hope you enjoy your new books. :-)

Lately I seem to be doing most of my reading in bed too, right before I fall asleep. That and during my lunch half hour at work. As a result, my book travels with me. I tend to read just one book at a time, although there are times when I delve into two.

  5. I'm the same...I can do two books if it's one non-fiction and one fiction or one short story collection and one novel. Two novels, not really.

    Congratulations to the winners!

  6. Popin - Short stories are usually contained so it's easy to read something else in between. And I find sometimes it's nice to have a break from the stories so they don't run together in my mind.

gautami tripathy - Sometimes I wish I could read several books at once, but I've found that I really prefer focusing on one book at a time.

Janet - LOL. So is it always 4 or does that change sometimes?

Wendy - I don't seem to be able to stay awake for very long when I get to bed lately so I haven't made much reading progress this week. I think I'm going to join the read-a-thon next week just so I can catch up a bit. :P

Nymeth - Exactly. I'd much rather focus on one story and set of characters at a time.

  7. It changes...and I just added 3 more yesterday! Noticed there's a new Nevada Barr in paperback, woohoo! And I bought Colleen Gleason's last vampire book and also The Four Agreements.
