Read-a-thon: Let the Reading Begin!

It's just past 1 PM on Saturday here in Japan and as I mentioned earlier in the week, I'm starting Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon a few hours early, 8 hours to be exact. I was originally planning to start at noon but I ended up doing some chores around the house. However, now that the floors have been vacuumed, the cat's litter box cleaned, and a load of laundry done, I can read this weekend without any guilt. So, while the read-a-thon doesn't officially start for another few hours, my read-a-thon begins... now!

I'll be posting progress updates approximately every 4 hours or so (as long as I'm awake) with some photos of books and snacks and whatever else comes up over the weekend.  In the meantime, here's what I'm going to dive into first...

See you in a few hours.

Awesome! I started early (Thursday night, in fact) because I actually wanted to read 24 hours and my weekend schedule didn't allow it. I'll be re-starting at the official time in the morning, but I love to see that others started early, too.

Hunger Games...that's likely the next book I'll pick up!

Terri B. Sat Oct 24, 02:19:00 PM

Thought I'd stop in and say "hi" since it is only 10:15pm on Friday here in California. Not sure if any of the folks further east in the US will be up right now. I'm not participating in the read-a-thon, but thought I'd cheer a few people on! Have fun reading. Nice book choice :o)

Kailana Sat Oct 24, 02:29:00 PM

Enjoy THE HUNGER GAMES! It is a perfect read for the read-a-thon, I think. :)

Carrie K. Sat Oct 24, 03:19:00 PM

I started early, too - 6:15 my time Friday evening. It's now 11:15 - I'm taking a quick online break to update and tweet. Happy reading!

What a great way to start off the read-a-thon!

I'll be here to cheer you on a little later in the day. It's midnight in Seattle! :)

Lenore Sat Oct 24, 04:06:00 PM

Ooh! I loved the Hunger Games. Great pick to kick off with.

Kristen M. Sat Oct 24, 05:09:00 PM

Have a great time with the read-a-thon!

The Readathon is a great choice to start off with. I hope that you are enjoying it.

I notice that you have Catching Fire in your Readathon pile as well. Looks like you're in for a fun afternoon.

Enjoy your reading, will pop back later to see how you are getting along.

Jodie Sat Oct 24, 08:53:00 PM

Huger Games wow I hear that's fantastic. Good luck!

Happy reading, Nat!

I hope you enjoy The Hunger Games.

Literary Feline Sat Oct 24, 11:50:00 PM

Good luck with the read-a-thon, Nat! Good idea cleaning the house ahead of time. I would probably feel better about settling into read all day and night with that behind me too. :-)

Les Sun Oct 25, 02:01:00 AM

Excellent first choice. I've taken a quick break to get showered and dressed and am ready to dive into another book. Hmm, maybe Neil Gaiman... Have fun, Nat!

Thank you everyone for you comments, and read-a-thon good wishes!

Thanks ErinRagan, Kelly, brizmus, Lena, Lenore, Kristen M., katrina, Jodie, and Claire!

Ronnica - I was glad to see others starting early too. In fact, I think I may start even earlier next time.

Terri B. - Thanks so much for stopping by to cheer me on! I really appreciated it. :)

Carrie K. - There seemed to be quite a few people who started early this time!

Susan - I kind of wish now that I'd gone on and read Catching Fire straight after The Hunger Games, but hopefully I'll pick it up soon.

Wendy - I'm pretty sure seeing dust bunnies on the floor would've distracted me from reading. Having done those chores in the morning I felt completely justified sitting on the sofa all afternoon reading. :)

Les - I read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman during the last read-a-thon in April, and it was a good choice.

Kathrin Mon Nov 02, 06:35:00 AM

Oh, it's awesome you started early :-) I wouldn't have wanted to start at 9PM either. Almost being tired at the beginning of the read-a-thon isn't good.

tanabata Sat Nov 14, 07:47:00 PM

Kathrin - I started at 9 the previous 2 times I joined the read-a-thon and it was a bit hard starting so late in the day. Starting early this time worked out well so I'm pretty sure I'll do the same from now on.
